Bollywood Gold

Bollywood Gold

8 August 2018

At the hotel we were delighted to be approached by the production company working on the Bollywood film Gold who were keen to use the magnificent splendour of the Kings Hall as a location for filming.

Set in 1948 the film Gold tells the story of India’s first Olympic medal (as an independent country), won by the hockey team, on the 12th August 1948. It follows the change in India as it moves away from the constraints of the British Empire as a nation in its own right. This year marks the 70th anniversary of this historic event.

The hotel became The Grand Hotel, Bombay for an evening event to announce the national team selection for the London Olympics in 1948. It took just three days to transform the Upper Lounge and Kings Hall to the 1940’s, bringing in props and furniture to match the period. The production crew were at the hotel for eight days in total. Whilst at the hotel they had use of the hotel’s car park; and all areas in use for the film were closed off to the public and staff to ensure set and up filming could take place without any interruptions.

Gold stars Akshay Kumar, and Mouni Roy, with Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Amit Sadh, and Sunny Kaushal.

It is released in India on 15th August 2018.
